Vaccines Arrive

A further batch of 5,850 Pfizer arrived yesterday on a TAP flight.  The vaccines are currently stored at an airport warehouse, and will be transported under Public Security Police (PSP) guard to the the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital tomorrow morning.  

Vaccination Scam

According to the Public Security Police (PSP), fraudsters, are pretending to be doctors and asking people to pay for their vaccination.  In addition, other members of the public have been told they have a life-threatening disease and need to be vaccinated, and the only way to ensure their safety is to pay for the vaccination upfront

Barrier Erected Between Poiso and Pico do Areeiro

Workers from the Regional Directorate for Roads today installed an iron barrier across the road connecting Poiso and Pico do Areeiro, in order to prevent people driving up into the mountains during bad weather conditions, i.e. snow.  Obviously, the barrier will be raised during normal - good weather, and its installation will enable the police and Forestry police to make more effective use of their resources. 

PSP Enforce Curfew in Garajau

Public Security Police (PSP) agents had to enforce the 5.00 pm curfew closing rules to several bars and commercial establishments in Garajau this evening.  The problem was that many of the bars and restaurants still had a lot of customers, which made it difficult for them to comply with the closing time.

Polish Walker Rescued

Fourteen search and rescue personal including officers from the Regional Command of Public Security Police (PSP) Madeira, the Santana Volunteer Firefighters and the Forestry Police were involved in the rescue of a 33-year-old Polish national, who was lost last night in the mountains of Madeira.

New Curfew Enforced

This evening, the first day of the new restrictive measures, the Public Security Police (PSP) were out monitoring traffic and ensuring that the new timings are adhered to. And as motorists desperately tried to get home before 19:00, traffic became congested during the busy streets of Funchal.
