In a statement, the Regional Command of PSP Madeira confirmed that they have found the elderly woman who has been missing from her home in Ponta do Sol.
A missing persons report was filed on Monday the 6th of December, when an elderly woman of the parish, who has mobility issues, and lives alone, was last been seen walking along a path on Sunday afternoon. Further to their enquiries the police found that the woman had not returned from her walk, and immediately organised a search party, which included members from the Ponta do Sol Police Station and the PSP Search and Rescue Brigade.
The woman was found about a kilometre from her residence, lying on the ground in a banana plantation, suffering from hypothermia and dehydration. It is thought that she fell and did not have the strength to get back up again. She was quickly taken to the Doctor Nélio Mendonça hospital, where she will remain for the time being.
