The bather rescued yesterday afternoon at Praia Formosa, Funchal, ended up dying, confirmed a hospital source, despite all resuscitation efforts by firefighters and the A&E department of the Dr Nélio Mendonça Hospital.
The rescue operation involved lifeguards and military personnel from the Maritime Authority involved in the ‘Sea Watch’ project, as well as the Madeiran Volunteer Firefighters.
The victim’s wife was taken to the hospital by the Sappers in a state of shock.
Earlier this week Frente MarFunchal launched a warning on social networks alerting bathers to the forecast of levadias, with tides rising above normal levels, and yesterday morning a red warning flag was raised at Praia Formosa beach.
