Porto Santo – 100% Green Energy

The Regional Secretary for Infrastructure, Pedro Rodrigues, said on Tuesday that Porto Santo should reach extended periods of energy production based on renewable sources this year.

“We estimate that there will be 200 days during the year that renewable sources entirely supply Porto Santo’s electricity,” he said, during a visit to the island.

According to the minister, the photovoltaic and wind farm should be completed by the summer, allowing “Porto Santo [to be] 100% green.”

The Regional Secretary spoke about the progress at the Porto Santo health centre, noting that the second phase of the new local health unit is nearly complete, with only the contract signing left.

“We still need to sign the contract, which could happen next week, so work can start by June or July, after it goes through the Court of Auditors. Once that’s done, construction should begin, with a two-year deadline,” he said.

Pedro Rodrigues visited Porto Santo alongside the Regional Secretary for Health and Civil Protection, Micaela Freitas, to check on the progress of ongoing Regional Government investments on the island.
