The Public Security Police (PSP) warned, through social networks, of the importance of configuring mobile phones for emergencies, stressing that these devices can, in the event of a serious accident or fall, automatically call for help.
According to the information released, some equipment is prepared to detect violent impacts and, if the user does not respond, it issues an alert, automatically contacts 112, and can also share the location with emergency services and previously defined contacts.
The PSP recommends that users check if this feature is active on their devices, namely through the ‘Emergency SOS’ settings on iPhone and Apple Watch, or in the ‘Security and Emergency’ area on Android devices. For devices that do not have this option, there are alternative applications or the option to manually configure the help request.
The PSP also advises that filling in the emergency contacts and medical data can be of crucial importance in the event of an accident or fall.
However, says the PSP, this system should not be tested, as it is prepared to be activated only in real high-impact situations.
