Joint Inspection Targets Cannabis Stores Across Madeira
The Regional Authority for Economic Activities (ARAE) and the Judiciary Police (PJ) launched a coordinated inspection operation this morning targeting shops selling cannabis-derived products and “smart shop” items across Madeira.
The operation, which began earlier today, centres on a widespread investigation into 11 separate establishments across the region. One notable point of activity occurred at the Cannabis Bio Store located in Largo do Chafariz, Funchal, where authorities carried out inspections and seized suspected psychotropic substances.
According to the PJ coordinator in Funchal, José Matos, the large-scale operation involves the collaboration of multiple agencies, including the PSP (Public Security Police) and the Regional Health Service.
“Searches and inspections are currently underway in several establishments,” Matos stated. He confirmed that the PJ’s Madeira drug laboratory is analysing all seized products to determine their chemical composition, legal status, and potential public health risks.
Authorities have not yet released further details regarding arrests or specific charges, noting that the proceedings are ongoing. The PJ is expected to issue a more comprehensive statement once the investigations conclude and initial laboratory results are reviewed
