Police Operation in Câmara de Lobos

The Câmara de Lobos Public Security Police, BIR (Rapid Response Brigade), undercover agents, the Judiciary Police and firefighters were this morning involved in a large-scale police operation that started at 7 am and ended at 11 am, at a property located on the border between Câmara de Lobos and Estreito de Câmara de Lobos.

Azores Calling Mars

The former director of the scientific department of the American Space Agency, James Garvin, said today that the Capelinhos volcano in the Azores is "an open book" with the potential to become an exploration "laboratory" in respect of the volcanic system on Mars.

Depression Affects 10.4% Of Madeiran’s

According to data released today by the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira, the National Health Survey, which was carried out between September 2019 and January 2020, indicates that depression affects 10.4% of the island's population aged 15 and over. Depression is classed as a chronic disease and the surveys results mean that 22,900 people living in the region suffer from chronic depression, with women being more affected than men.  The results are similar to those released in the 2014 survey.

Mandatory Testing

From Thursday, those who leave the Region, even for a period of less than 72 hours, will have to take a covid-19 test on arrival at either Madeira or Porto Santo airport.

Hashish and Mephedrone Seized

The Regional Command of the Public Security Police (PSP) of Madeira confirmed in  a press statement that a series of police initiatives are being undertaken within the municipality of Funchal, focusing on drug related crimes including the consumption and trafficking of narcotic drugs.  As such, they recently seized 18,507 individual doses of Hasish and 505 grams of Mepherone, a psychoactive drug also known as Bloom. 

Orange Alert for Rain

Early this evening, the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere announced that between midnight tonight and 9 am Tuesday, the 20th of October, Madeira will be under an orange warning for rain, which may be accompanied by thunderstorms.
