As part of a tourist initiative the municipality of Porto Moniz has launched their "Porto Moniz Revitaliza + Voucher Card.' Throughout October, all visitors who eat in local restaurants or stay overnight in one of the municipalities hotels will receive a free entry pass for the Madeira Aquarium.

Parents, Please be Aware

This week a 10-year-old Italian boy threw himself off the balcony of his 11th floor apartment in the city of Naples, Italy, after leaving a note to his parents saying, “I'm sorry, mom. I love you, but I'm afraid of the black man in the hood.”

Man Missing

Filipe Miguel Ferreira, aged 35, has been missing since yesterday, when he left his home in Câmara de Lobos to go to work. Since then there has been no contact and his phone is switched off. 

3.3 Earthquake Recorded

At 02.42 this morning, the Portuguese Institute of Atmosphere and Sea (IPMA) recorded an earthquake registering 3.3 on the Richter Scale, located 300 km from the Region.  Further information states that the quake had a depth of 10 km.

Launch of NOVEMIL

The Mayor of Funchal, Miguel Silva Gouveia, recently presented a new historical initiative 'NOVEMIL' at the Municipal Theater Baltazar Dias.  NOVEMIL is a digital platform that highlights Funchal's history, providing glimpses into the past that allows people to understand how the city has grown and changed since it was first established.

Uber Law Delays

The JPP (Juntos Pelo Povo) has expressed its concern on behalf of professionals taxi drivers, as the law “Autonomous Region of Madeira Law No. 45/2018, of 10 August, which establishes the legal regime for the activity of individual and remunerated transport of passengers in vehicles uncharacterized from an electronic platform (taxis)” has not yet been published in Diário da República.

Fatal Fall

Emergency services were called this afternoon (29th), after someone fell into a ravine in the Prainha area of Caniçal. 

Although, information is sketchy, the emergency services have confirmed that the fall was fatal, and that the recovery of the body has been passed over to the competent authorities.
