Travellers in and out of the island may be affected by safety constraints at Madeira’s Airport, given the intensity of the wind that is expected for the Region.
Ricardo Tavares, the Regional IPMA Delegate, states that from Wednesday, with the arrival of a new depression in Madeira, gusts could reach 90km/hour (110 in the highlands).
“It is very likely that between the 8th/9th and up until the 12th, there is a real threat that airport operationality will be affected, although there may be a slight reprieve on Thursday afternoon, due to a temporary decrease in wind speeds, but these will increase during Thursday.
According to the IPMA, Wednesday night will be the windiest.
Please check with your airline before travelling to the airport.
