Weather Checks Needed

Independent councilors Luís Filipe Santos and Jorge Afonso Freitas recommended, today, in a City Council meeting, that urgent maintenance and inspection actions be taken in critical areas of the city of Funchal, taking into account the recent rains and unstable weather.

Maintenance tasks like cleaning stream and riverbeds are needed, especially for the stream next to the Inspection Centre, which recently collapsed and is now cluttered. While the stream falls under the Regional Government’s responsibility, councillors have requested the City Council to work with them and start all necessary procedures to ensure the site is cleaned and cleared.

Luís Filipe Santos and Jorge Afonso Freitas requested that a technical engineering inspection be carried out on the habitability conditions of Sociohabita’s buildings, located on Rua das Cruzes,  with regard to small repairs related to humidity and infiltrations.

The independent councilors reinforce “the importance of preventive and maintenance actions, especially in periods of climate instability, to protect citizens and preserve the safety and quality of public and residential spaces.”
