Chinese company Nanchang Fireworks Industries Co., Ltd. has won the Atlantic Trophy, awarded by the jury at the 2026 Madeira International Fireworks Display Competition (CIFAM), while Ukrainian company Dance of Fire claimed the public’s ‘Madeira Tão Tua Trophy.’
The competition forms part of the Atlantic Festival, organised by the Regional Secretariat for Tourism, Environment and Culture through the Regional Directorate of Tourism. This year’s contest featured fireworks companies from Canada, China and Ukraine, attracting thousands of residents and visitors to Funchal Bay throughout June.
Nanchang Fireworks Industries Co., Ltd. won the jury prize with its display, ‘Flowers Catching Fire: The Blossoming of Light’, presented on the 13th of June.
The public award went to Ukraine’s Dance of Fire for its performance, ‘Magic of the Atlantic: A Bridge Over the Ocean’, which was staged a week later on the 21st of June and received the highest number of votes in the poll organised by the Regional Secretariat for Tourism, Environment and Culture.
The competition also featured Canadian company Firemaster Productions Inc., which opened this year’s event with its display ‘The Final Frontier.’
Regional Secretary for Tourism, Environment and Culture, Eduardo Jesus, said the competition had once again demonstrated Madeira’s ability to host major international events.
“The Madeira International Fireworks Display Competition is now recognised well beyond our borders. The quality of this year’s displays reflects the prestige the event has achieved among the world’s leading fireworks companies and reinforces Madeira’s ability to offer unique experiences that continue to surprise and delight visitors,” he said.
Eduardo Jesus added that this year’s Atlantic Festival had met its objectives of enhancing the Region’s cultural programme while providing entertainment for both residents and tourists.
“We had a particularly dynamic month of June, with a varied programme that once again attracted residents and visitors. The Atlantic Festival is an example of how culture, entertainment and tourism can work together to create value for the Region while strengthening Madeira’s international profile and supporting the local economy,” he said.
He also highlighted the festival’s growth since its launch in 2002.
“More than two decades after its creation, the Atlantic Festival continues to evolve. It marks the beginning of Madeira’s summer events programme, generates international recognition and enhances the experience of those who choose our Region as their destination.”
In addition to the competition, this year’s Atlantic Festival included pyromusical displays in other municipalities, including Machico during the Sixteenth Century Market and Porto Santo as part of the São João celebrations.
The festival concludes tonight with the out-of-competition pyromusical display ‘Generations,’ presented by Macedo’s Pirotecnia at Funchal Quay at 10.30 pm.
Created in 2002, the Atlantic Festival remains one of Madeira’s flagship cultural and tourism events, attracting thousands of spectators each year with a programme combining fireworks, music and entertainment.
