Next year’s Carnival will have two allegorical parades, one on Saturday night, as it happens now, and one on Sunday. There will be a draw to decide which groups participate in the first and second parade. The Trapalhão parade will continue on Carnival Tuesday, with greater incentives to participate, possibly involving private institutions of social solidarity (IPSS). The news was announced by the President of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque, while watching the Madeira Flower Classic Auto Parade, which takes place this afternoon in Funchal.
The chief executive explained that the allegorical procession, scheduled for two days, is due to the high number of participants from the 14 participating groups, which makes the event too long and leads the public to become tired and, at a certain point, to leave. The problem had already been detected in the Flower Festival parade. As the solution of the two parades “went very well” in this year’s edition, it will now be replicated in Carnival.
“I don’t think there’s any problem, because we already have this experience [of two parades at the Flower Festival] that went very well. No one gets up from the stands to leave. Because after three hours, people leave, which happened now in the last edition of Carnival, in which, despite the beauty and animation, people get a little tired. Three hours is a long time. And we don’t want to prevent people from participating and enjoying the festivities. The best way to do it is to have two days of entertainment. It’s solved. It will go well. You’ll see,” said Albuquerque, who was accompanied by the Regional Tourism Secretary, Eduardo Jesus.
