A Hungarian couple, both in their 50s, were the victims of an assault this afternoon in Santa Catarina Park, Funchal.
The alert was given around 12:30 pm through a call to 112 made by a passerby who was in the vicinity. A team from the Portuguese Red Cross was called to the scene, which provided assistance to the two victims.
The man has a serious head injury. After an on-site evaluation, the couple was transported to the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital.
The Public Security Police (PSP) has already detained the suspect, while the hunt for the assault weapon is ongoing.
