A 41-year-old man was injured on Tuesday, the 27th of October, after a wave swept him onto rocks at Praia Formosa, in Funchal.
The alert was raised at 13:21. According to an operational source, the man was caught by a breaking wave and thrown against the rocks, hitting his back.
He complained of pain in his lower back and abdomen and was also experiencing breathing difficulties.
Two members of the Madeiran Volunteer Firefighters attended the scene with an ambulance. After receiving first aid, the man was taken to the emergency department at Dr Nélio Mendonça Hospital.
