The Captaincy of Funchal has issued a strong wind warning until 18:00 this afternoon.
The wind will blow from NE, very cool, sometimes strong, at dawn and visibility will be good.
As for the swell, there will be NE waves of 2 to 2.5 metres on the south coast, gradually increasing to 2.5 to 3.5 metres. On the south coast, the waves will be from the east quadrant, of 1 metre.
The Captaincy recommends to the entire maritime community and the population in general the precautions to be taken, both in preparation for a sea trip whether deep water or coastal areas.
These precautions include reinforcing mooring and keeping a close watch on moored and anchored vessels; avoid walking by the sea or in areas exposed to sea agitation, such as the protection jetties of ports, cliffs, or beaches as freak waves can hit these areas. Do not practice recreational fishing, especially near the cliffs and cliff areas frequently hit by the breaking waves, as in these conditions the sea can easily reach apparently safe areas.
A yellow warning is in place.
