Two Italian males aged 59 and 54 years old,were arrested yesterday at Funchal Marina in possession of 326 kg of cocaine.

The Regional Government of Madeira has announced its intention of extending the island's 'State of Calamity' until the 31st of July 2020 to ensure that the island and its inhabitants remain protected.
The Town Hall of Funchal re-opens tomorrow, the 26th of June, with a concert by Triola at 7 pm as part of councils 'Music at the Museums' project. The concert will be broadcast on the Museu Cidade do Açúcar Facebook page.
The mainland government came under further criticism from the President of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque, this week for their failure to control the continued outbreaks of Covid-19 in some of the poorest regions of Lisbon, saying that he considers the recent increase in cases in Portugal is due to the lack of control by health units and “right decisions” by the national government.

It was a bull earlier in the week that caused a commotion, and today, a cow was seen strolling along the streets of Funchal, namely, at the Praça da ASSICOM roundabout on Estrada Monumental, causing both consternation and concern to pedestrians and motorists alike. Apparently, the cow comes from Areeiro, São Martinho.

Savoy Signature Hotels has announced that they are set to re-open two more hotels in July following the recent re/opening of the Calheta Beach Hotel on the 9th of June. Following on from this the Savoy Palace will re-open on the 13th of July, followed by the Saccharum, on the 31st.
The Public Security Police (PSP) Madeira has announced that they have arrested two citizens, one male and one female, aged 39 and 43 years respectively, for drug trafficking.
Under a new Uber Law, Madeira will allow a maximum of 40 TVDE vehicles to operate on the island, with a maximum of 3 vehicles per operator. These are the main changes to the national legislation that will be approved by the Regional Assembly today, the 24th of June.
This week, Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) deputy Ricardo Lume visited the parish of Curral das Freiras to discuss with the local population and farmers the brutal loss of cherry and sour cherry production in the parish due to the extreme weather conditions that have impacted negatively on crop production.
