Two Italian males aged 59 and 54 years old, were arrested yesterday at Funchal Marina in possession of 326 kg of cocaine. At midday today, the 27th of June, they were taken by the Judicial Police to the Funchal Court where their case was presented and were later transported to the island’s prison in Cancela to await trial.
According to the Judicial Police co-ordinator, Ricardo Tecedeiro, the drugs seized yesterday came from South America and were on-route to the mainland. However, due to technical reasons the yacht had to call in to Madeira, and there was no indication that the drugs were destined to be sold in Madeira.
The drug was transported in packages, all of which had the image of the Eiffel Tower and Paris written on them. Neither were they hidden in any special compartments.
