425 Passengers Arrived in Madeira

A total of 425 passengers, on flights from Lisbon, Porto and the Azores, disembarked this Wednesday at Madeira Airport, on the day that the new Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) testing controls were introduced to screen and test those who have arrived without a PCR test certificate. Of the 425 passengers, 243 were screened at the airports new testing facilities.  

Sailing to Argentina

Juan Manuel Ballestero was in Porto Santo when Argentina banned all flights in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Determined to see his 90-year-old father, who lives in Argentina, he set sail from Porto Santo and sailed the 6,129 miles to Argentina in a 9 metre boat in what has been deemed a story of both love and courage, but which left friends worried for his life.

Lack of Decisions Costs Lives

The mainland government came under further criticism from the President of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque, this week for their failure to control the continued outbreaks of  Covid-19 in some of the poorest regions of Lisbon, saying that he considers the recent increase in cases in Portugal is due to the lack of control by health units and “right decisions” by the national government.

Moo’ve Over

It was a bull earlier in the week that caused a commotion, and today, a cow was seen strolling along the streets of Funchal, namely, at the  Praça da ASSICOM roundabout on Estrada Monumental, causing both consternation and concern to pedestrians and motorists alike.  Apparently, the cow comes from Areeiro, São Martinho.
