Strong Winds Condition Airport

Strong winds affecting the east of the island have also affected the Madeira International Airport – Cristiano Ronaldo, forcing planes to circle and forcing one to divert to an alternative airport.

One reported case involved EasyJet flight U28519 from London, which had to divert to Porto Santo Airport. Meanwhile, flight W6 1029 from Poland spent some time in a “holding pattern” before eventually landing safely.

During the most critical period, at least two aircraft were forced to circle the archipelago, while waiting for better landing conditions.

At the moment, operations are running more normally. However,  an operational source indicates that the wind, which may reach speeds of up to 55 km/h could cause further delays and diversions.
