Santana Congested This Morning

Achada do Teixeira, in Santana, was severely congested with cars this morning, with rows of parked cars extending for several kilometres. When talking to a tour guide, JM learned that it was practically impossible to access the parking area of Achada do Teixeira.

According to the same source, the space is completely saturated, with a predominance of rental vehicles, while many of those travelling with organised tourist groups faced difficulties reaching the top and accessing the walking routes.

Pico das Pedras was also experiencing high volumes of tourists and traffic, showing a significant increase in movement on the paths and levadas in the region. Walking routes in the Santana area have become complicated throughout the day.

Further down, in Ribeiro Frio, the Balcões footpath registered a massive influx of visitors this morning, making walking along the route practically impossible. In an image sent to media networks, it is possible to see long lines of tourists at the entrance to the trail. While some head towards the viewpoint, others start the journey back to the road, contributing to congestion.

The increase in demand for these places once again highlights the tourist pressure in the most emblematic areas of the island, raising challenges in terms of parking management and pedestrian circulation.
