JPP Want Hospital Sale Documentation

Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP) has submitted a request to access the internal studies that, according to the PSD/CDS Regional Government, support the decision to proceed with the sale of the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital.

In a statement, the JPP recalls that last Monday, it had already requested the public disclosure of all documentation associated with the process, arguing that it is public information. Despite this, he says that the President of the Regional Government has reaffirmed his intention to put up for sale an “essential public heritage to solve serious regional social needs,” namely, in terms of the lack of homes and long-term care structures.

According to the party’s Secretary-General, Élvio Sousa, the head of the regional executive did not present the studies that he says exist, “as is his duty and in the name of transparency,” adding that, in the face of public pressure, the sale was postponed to 2030.

“As far as the JPP is concerned, this will not happen in 2030 and never,” said Élvio Sousa, stressing that the party will use “all means” to access the documentation and clarify the Government’s intentions.

The JPP leader also criticizes the recent statements by the President of the Regional Government, who admits the possibility of building “affordable housing” on the site, considering it to be an attempt to “convince public opinion of the goodness of his hasty decision,” based, according to the party, on internal studies “tailored to their interests, but which do not solve the real needs of the populations.”
