Within the scope of the ecoRoute project, financed by the EMFAF Community Fund, the cleaning of Toco beach was carried out on the 26th of September, with the aim of not only preventing terrestrial rubbish from reaching the sea, but also collecting litter brought in with the tide.
On the 27th of September, underwater cleaning was carried out in front of the beach of Forte de São Tiago. This action was undertaken by divers and apnea practitioners, who removed rubbis from the seabed, reminding everyone that you need to clean below and above the waterline.
According to the organisation, the cleaning and awareness efforts for the cultural and natural heritage of the aquatic environment was a success. The initiative involved around 50 volunteers and resulted in the collection of approximately 400 kg of rubbish.
The impact on the community was widely felt, and new initiatives are expected in the future, with even greater community participation,” highlights the CEAM team.
