A fire involving an awning on the upper roof of the Madeira Story Centre, in Funchal’s Old Town, prompted a response from three fire brigades and the PSP shortly after midnight on Monday, the 26th of October.
The Madeiran Volunteer Firefighters sent two vehicles and eight personnel, while the Funchal Firefighters deployed four vehicles and 13 personnel. The Santa Cruz Firefighters also sent a crane vehicle and its crew.
The Santa Cruz vehicle has been called upon at recent fires because similar equipment belonging to the two Funchal brigades is out of service.
Despite the substantial emergency response on Rua Dom Carlos I, the fire had already been extinguished before the fire brigade arrived. The emergency teams were stood down shortly afterwards.
