A social media influencer with approximately one million followers has sparked criticism after being filmed rollerblading along the VE2 expressway in São Vicente.
The video, published on Instagram on Monday, the 26th of October, shows the woman travelling along the road between the Água d’Alto tunnel and the São Vicente Wastewater Treatment Plant, followed by a line of vehicles.
The footage prompted a wave of criticism, with several users warning of the danger of rollerblading on a road intended for motor vehicles. Around 17 hours after it was published, the video had received approximately 3,500 reactions and more than 150 comments.
One user asked: “Is everything allowed in Madeira? Where is the law?” Directing the question to Madeira’s Public Security Police (PSP). Others described the woman’s behaviour as irresponsible and called for a fine, while several expressed concern about the risk of an accident.
The woman, who uses the name Cleoppatre on social media, describes herself as an artist. Her profile features content involving activities such as flips, jumps and other sports.
Some comments also questioned the level of enforcement on the Region’s roads and the treatment of visitors and residents.
At the time of writing, it was not known whether the authorities were aware of the incident or whether any action had been taken.
The incident follows another video that circulated in September, showing an electric scooter travelling through a tunnel on the Madeira expressway, apparently between Seixal and São Vicente. The person who shared the footage claimed that the scooter reached nearly 100 km/h, although the speed could not be independently confirmed.
