A man armed with a shotgun was photographed on the Ponta de São Lourenço trail on Sunday, the 18th of October, amid reports that he fired shots while tourists were walking nearby.
According to a witness, the man was hunting partridges. His presence and the reported gunfire surprised walkers and tour guides on the popular route.
The red-legged partridge (Alectoris rufa) is frequently seen at Ponta de São Lourenço, which attracts large numbers of tourists and Madeiran residents.
The report does not establish whether the hunting was authorised or whether anyone complained to the authorities.
