The Vereda do Areeiro (PR1), connecting Pico do Areeiro and Pico Ruivo, will be partially closed for six days this month while previously scheduled work is carried out.
The affected section, between the Pedra Rija viewpoint and Pico Ruivo, will be closed from the 14th to the 17th and again on the 21st and 22nd of September.
During these periods, walkers will not be able to complete the route between Pico do Areeiro and Pico Ruivo.
The section between Pico do Areeiro and the Pedra Rija viewpoint will remain open in both directions. Visitors may walk as far as the viewpoint but must return along the same path.
The authorities are asking everyone using the trail to respect the signs, barriers and instructions in place.
The route has previously experienced problems with visitors ignoring closures and climbing over barriers. In May, around 300 people reportedly gathered while awaiting the trail’s opening, with several entering before authorisation was given after a guard arrived 15 minutes late.
