Adverse Weather Conditions Affecting Airport

Adverse weather conditions are making operations at Madeira International Airport – Cristiano Ronaldo particularly challenging this afternoon, with strong winds affecting the eastern part of the island. According to JM, at least five aircraft have been holding for some time, awaiting an improvement in conditions before they can land safely.

Among the affected flights are a GetJet Airlines Boeing 737, a Binter aircraft arriving from Gran Canaria, a Jet2 Airbus A321, another Jet2 Boeing 737, and a British Airways Airbus A321.

The situation is also disrupting departures scheduled over the coming hours, and an Eurowings flight was unable to land in Madeira and diverted to the Canary Islands due to adverse weather conditions.

Airport authorities continue to monitor the situation closely on an afternoon marked by strong gusts of wind and air traffic control operational challenges.

At 20:00, ANAM confirmed that flights were arriving.

Please note that the General Strike on the 3rd of June can affect flights. Please contact your airline and confirm the status of your flight before arriving at the airport.
