The Food Bank Against Hunger of Madeira collected 28.8 tonnes of food during the 27th collection campaign held on the 30th and 31st of May, in 29 supermarkets across the Region.
The donated products will be distributed over the next six months to low-income households through more than 50 partner institutions.
According to the organisation, the amount collected shows a 8.5% decrease compared to the same period last year.
The Food Bank thanked the solidarity of the Madeirans and the contribution of more than 800 volunteers and 70 entities that collaborated in the operation.
The campaign continues until the 7th of June through the Ajuda Vale initiative, which allows the purchase of product vouchers at supermarket checkouts, as well as through the online campaign.
