The Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation (IFCN) has confirmed, through a press release, that the classified pedestrian route PR1 – Vereda do Pico do Areeiro will fully reopen to the public, without any access restrictions or calendar constraints, from the 26th of June.
Until that date, the current operating model will be in force. Therefore, until the 25th of June, the walk will remain closed from Monday to Thursday, and only open to walkers on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
However, the ICFCN states that the walk will be temporarily closed from the 14th to the 17th, as well as the 21st and 22nd of September, for the installation of a walkway in one of the previously damaged areas.
Once this intervention is completed, the route will resume its regular operation with no further interruptions planned, since the remaining works can be carried out with the trail open to the public.
“The IFCN recalls that prior registration to access the PR1 is mandatory, and interested parties must make the respective reservation through the Simplifica platform. Scheduling can be made from tomorrow, the 1st of June.
