After more than twenty years on the run from justice, a Portuguese woman aged 63 was detained at Madeira Airport last Monday.
The Regional Command of PSP Madeira issued a statement, saying:
“The citizen, on whom an arrest warrant was pending, was intercepted by the Airport Security Police Division at Madeira airport. She was arrested while travelling to Portugal via Madeira after disembarking from a British Airways flight. The woman is wanted for drug trafficking crimes dating back to 1997.
On apprehending the woman, the PSP concluded that the arrest warrant was still applicable as the woman had fled justice before serving her six-year sentence.
After 24 years on the run, the woman will now serve her prison sentence at Cancela Prison.
