Massive Queues for Passport Control

This morning (Monday, the 6th of July), Madeira International Airport – Cristiano Ronaldo showed signs of struggle as incoming flights created a massive queue at passport control, following the arrival of several flights from the United Kingdom, according to passenger reports.

One of the affected travellers told DIÁRIO that the congestion meant that many passengers were forced to stand in the blazing sunshine for more than half an hour as queues extended outside the airport infrastructure. They further stressed that those with Portuguese passports were having to wait as there were no separate queues for residents, nationals, and EU citizens.

Between 10:00 and midday, flights arrived from Manchester, two from Bristol, as well as connections from Birmingham, London, and Liverpool.

As previously reported by DIÁRIO, the PSP has reinforced border control with new specialised agents. The new agents start their two-week operational training camp today.

Reading the social commentary, many ask whether tourists will want to travel to Madeira when the airport is affected by bad weather and long delays.
