With yellow and orange weather warnings, it was no surprise that Madeira’s peaks were covered in a dusting of snow on Saturday. In Pico do Areeiro, thermometers dropped to -2.0°C, and a little further down, -0.1°C (Chão do Areeiro). Interestingly, from 00:00 to 18:00, temperatures in Pico do Areeiro remained negative.
A sharp drop in temperatures was felt in other parts of the island. The Cancela weather station recorded a minimum temperature of 10.7°C, while in Funchal, in the Lido area, the minimum was 13.6°C and 12.7 at the Funchal Observatory station.
To the north of the island, São Jorge recorded 9.7°C, Santana reached 8.4°C, and in Monte, temperatures dropped to 7.7°C. In Pico Alto, a little higher up, thermometers registered a high of 3.7°C.
