New Species of Papaya In Madeira

A Madeiran farmer has created a new species of papaya that has adapted well to the Madeiran climate through Microlab Madeira.

Read the press release from the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Environment:

“Today, João Aníbal Garanito stands out in regional agriculture, not only for his ability to adapt to the current demands of the market, but also for the high quality of what he produces.

The Regional Director of Agriculture, Marco Caldeira, was at his farm located in the municipality of Ponta de Sol, where he took the opportunity to praise the contribution of Microlab. A laboratory under the responsibility of the Regional Directorate of Agriculture and Rural Development, whose main mission is to encourage agriculture in Madeira and Porto Santo, through the in vitro propagation of plant species free of pests and/or diseases and that are of manifest regional interest.

“Today, consumers are increasingly aware and buy locally produced agricultural products.  This is now a current consumption trend, contributing to the dynamisation of the regional economy.”
