Litter Free Porto Santo

Within the scope of the “Porto Santo Sem Lixo Marinho” project, a coastal cleaning campaign will take place during the 14th to the 19th of December.  Depending on the number of people who volunteer, this clean-up may also extend to streams and other places where rubbish and marine litter frequently…

Song for SPEA

Until the 25th of December, all profits from the sale of the Moritz Quartet's track "Dança da Toutinegra" (Dance of the Warbler) will be donated to the Society for the Study of Birds (SPEA), which forms part of  Madeira's environmental education programme, which every year offers free lectures, workshops and field trips to the regions schools. 

88,500 New Trees Planted

The Regional Secretary for Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change, Susana Prada, was at Montado da Esperança, parish of São Roque, today, the 11th of November, as the first of the 88,500 plants, shrubs and trees were planted as part of the reforestation of an area covering 45 hectares. These include leafy and indigenous species. 

Adopt a Granny!

On Wednesday the 4th of November at 2.30 pm,  the Union of Private Social Solidarity Institutions and the APEL School will present their new joint project, called 'Adopt a Grandparent.'

Bread for God

In a move to create a little joy in these pandemic times, Monte parish council will distribute 'Bread for God' food packages to 400 children.

Firefighters Rescue Cow

The Calheta Volunteer Firefighters, in partnership with the Calheta City Council and the Forestry Police, rescued a cow this afternoon that was stuck in a cattle grid located on the road to Fonte do Bispo, Paul da Serra.

Missing Man Found

José Arlindo Andrade, the man who went missing yesterday, after having escaped from the hospital where he was scheduled to undergo a stomach operation, was found last night, apparently in good health, in the Lazareto area, in Funchal, by an off duty firefighter, who had seen his photograph in local newspaper, JM News.

Fatal Fall

Emergency services were called this afternoon (29th), after someone fell into a ravine in the Prainha area of Caniçal. 

Although, information is sketchy, the emergency services have confirmed that the fall was fatal, and that the recovery of the body has been passed over to the competent authorities.

Max or 'Max Ears' disappeared from his home in ​​Bemposta, Machico approximately three weeks ago.  At only five months old, the furry, small to medium sized dog's family are anxious to find him, and bring him home.
