Woman Missing

Idalina Azevedo, a 48-year-old woman, has been missing since last Saturday.  According to her sister, Dora Azevedo, Idalina was last seen on Friday night (10/07) in Assomada near the O Moega bar. Worse still, Idalina's phone has remained switched off since her disappearance.  

Terrible Psychological Consequences

A headline in one of the papers today confirmed that the absence of contact between family members and those in care homes has created 'terrible psychological consequences.'  What is worse, many health care experts, especially psychologist Lúcia Ferreira, claim that many of those who are in care homes will not die from Covid-19, but will die little by little from isolation and loneliness.

Fisherman Rescued

The Navy, in conjunction with the Funchal Maritime Search and Rescue coordination sub-centre, the captain of the Port of Funchal and the Regional Civil Protection Service, this morning rescued a crew member from a fishing vessel located 8 nautical miles south of Câmara de Lobos. Children Warn of Abandoned Mask Dangers

To mark 'Ocean Day' and despite being in lock down, local Caniço Primary school and the Junta de Freguesia challenged youngsters during May and June to create posters to raise awareness among the population about the risks to public health, nature and marine life that discarded disposable personal protective equipment, such as masks, gloves and wipes, has on the environment.  In addition the children wanted to highlight the use of reusable masks, in order to produce less waste.
