The Portuguese Institute of the Atmosphere and Sea (IPMA) has extended the hot weather warnings for the archipelago of Madeira until Wednesday, July the 8th, due to persistent high temperatures.
According to the update released by the IPMA, the north and south coasts of the island of Madeira and Porto Santo remain under a yellow warning between midday today and midday on Wednesday (UTC), due to the persistence of high maximum temperatures. The mountainous regions of Madeira remain under an orange warning during the same period.
The extension of the warnings comes as the archipelago faces a spell of intense heat, with scorching days and warm nights. In the highlands, temperatures are expected to hover around 30 degrees, prompting the continuation of the orange alert for these regions.
