Heat Warning Extended

Madeira will remain under a yellow ‘hot weather’ warning until Friday.

According to the Portuguese Institute of Atmosphere and Sea (IPMA), the warning covers the north and south coasts, and the mountainous regions of the island of Madeira, and is in force between 09:00 on Thursday and Saturday, the 4th of July. Please note that from 00:00 on Friday to 12:00 on Saturday, the Regions mountainous areas will be under an orange hot weather warning.

The warning is due to the persistence of high maximum temperatures, and special attention is recommended, especially for the most vulnerable groups, such as children, the elderly, and people with chronic diseases.

The authorities advise the adoption of protective measures, such as maintaining adequate hydration, avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun during the hottest hours, and favouring cool and airy places.
