More Flights Cancelled

Three dozen flights were cancelled throughout this Wednesday at Madeira Airport, affecting both arrivals and departures, and causing significant constraints to passengers and airlines, due to the strong winds.

By 18:00, 15 connections have been cancelled in arrivals and as many in departures. The affected flights include services to and from Lisbon, Porto, Amsterdam, London (Gatwick and Luton), Zurich, Madrid, Munich, Paris-Orly, and Nantes, operated by companies such as TAP Air Portugal, easyJet, Ryanair, British Airways, Iberia, Edelweiss, Eurowings, and Transavia.

In addition to the cancellations, the wind’s intensity has caused several delays and diverted several planes to other airports, such as Porto Santo.

Still, throughout the day, ‘weather openings’ allowed some aircraft to land and move safely on the Santa Cruz runway.

According to IPMA meteorological data, the strongest wind gust recorded was 91km/h.
