Snow Expected

After several days of stable weather and mild temperatures, with extreme maximums above 24 ºC in Funchal, Madeira is preparing for a significant change, with a sharp drop in temperature and the possibility of snow at the highest points.

According to the IPMA, from Tuesday, April the 7th, very cloudy skies are expected, rain and moderate to strong winds, with gusts up to 80 km/h in the highlands. Temperatures are also expected to drop, especially in mountainous areas.

The forecast for Wednesday and Thursday is frequent showers, sometimes intense and accompanied by thunderstorms, especially on the northern slope and highlands, where it may snow again.

The wind could reach gusts of up to 110 km/h in the highest areas.

The change contrasts with the last few days, marked by high temperatures, including more than 16 ºC in Pico do Areeiro and above 19 ºC in Pico Alto. However, thermometers may drop to values close to or even below zero at the highest points of the island.
