Five detainees arrived this afternoon at the Funchal Marina in a Navy boat under strict security imposed by the PJ, the Air Force, and the Maritime Authority.
They were the last five people to disembark, completing the group of 10 crew members of the vessels intercepted in an operation that resulted in the seizure of more than 7 thousand kilos of cocaine.
As the military vessel docked, they were immediately met by Judicial Police, who immediately transferred the drug traffickers into waiting vehicles. The perimeter of the Funchal Marina was isolated by police and military teams.
The operation, which DIÁRIO reported from the outset, resulted from the interception of two fishing vessels from South America, about 1,000 nautical miles (1,852 kilometers) from Lisbon.
According to DIÁRIO, in addition to the drug traffickers, approximately 1 tonne of cocaine was unloaded in Madeira, which will be subject to analysis and investigation.
This drug haul took place over two days. The first was on the 17th of November, where four and a half tonnes of cocaine were seized. The second was on the 20th of November, where a further two and a half tonnes were confiscated. One tonne was unloaded in Madeira.
With the arrival of the last five detainees in Funchal, the process now moves on to a new judicial stage.
