No Plans to Increase Electricity Prices

At a time when oil prices continue to rise, Pedro Rodrigues ruled out, for now, any immediate impact on the price of electricity in Madeira.

Speaking to journalists, the Regional Secretary for Equipment and Infrastructure, who oversees the Madeira Electricity Company, highlighted the strong regional investment in renewable energies, revealing that, in the first quarter of the year, these sources accounted for 55% of energy production, a record figure. “This makes us less dependent on fossil fuels and less exposed to the volatility of international prices,” he said.

The minister also recalled that the price of electricity is regulated by the Energy Services Regulatory Authority (ERSE), having recorded increases in recent years below the inflation rate. For 2026, he assured, no tariff increase is planned. “The price has already been set and, at this moment, it is premature to talk about future changes,” he concluded.
