Yesterday, the 27th, the Portuguese Navy rescued four crew members from a vessel whose engines had failed 130 nautical miles (240 kilometers) north of Madeira.
According to a statement, the alert was received at 11:45 pm on Sunday, the 26th of April 26, through the Funchal Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Subcentre (MRSC Funchal), reporting that a vessel was stranded and had no drinking water on board for the four crew members.
The patrol ship NRP Zaire and a Portuguese Air Force aircraft were mobilised to the scene. The vessel was eventually located by the aircraft, and the NRP Zaire proceeded to rescue the four men, three Spanish and one Serbian.
All the crew members were physically well and did not require medical assistance.
The vessel, described as a speedboat and without any identification, was towed to Madeira and later seized as a precautionary measure.
