Three Earthquakes in Two Days

Two earthquakes at the end of yesterday afternoon and another one this Monday morning were recorded by IPMA seismographs.

The first of these earthquakes occurred at 17:48 and had a magnitude of 1.9 on the Richter scale off the south coast of Madeira.  This was a very shallow quake at a depth of only 2 metres.

The second quake occurred less than an hour later, at 18:06, also registering a magnitude 1.9 on the Richter scale, off the southwest coast of the Desertas Islands.

Finally, at 15:07 this evening, a weak 1.2 magnitude earthquake was recorded off the southeast coast of the Desertas.

There is no record of these three tremors having been felt by the population
