The Icelandic company PLAY Airlines has announced that, as of Monday, the 29th of September, all flights to Madeira were cancelled, which included yesterday’s scheduled flight. The decision is due to financial difficulties, low ticket sales, and labour disputes.
The connection between Madeira and Iceland commenced on Tuesday, the 15th of October 2024, with weekly direct flights between Madeira International Airport – Cristiano Ronaldo and Iceland.
The company’s website provided passengers with information on travel alternatives, the option of “redemption fares” with other companies, and refund instructions for tickets bought with a payment card or as part of travel packages through agencies within the EEA (European Economic Area). Additional rights under EU regulations for air passengers may apply, and any claims related to bankruptcy should be directed to the appointed trustee.
PLAY Airlines regrets the interruption and is grateful for the understanding of its passengers.
