The National Republican Guard (GNR) recovered two vehicles in Madeira; one goods vehicle and a passenger car, both of which had been stolen in Spain last year.
In a statement, the GNR’s Madeira Territorial Command indicates that the recovery of the vehicles took place on Thursday, the 5th of June, “as part of a continuous monitoring operation on imported vehicles entering the autonomous region.”
One of the vehicles was located in a workshop, and the other was in the possession of a private individual. The two men involved are aged between fifty and sixty.
The GNR recommends that, “before the acquisition of used vehicles, especially those from abroad, the complete history of the vehicle is requested, including the vehicle identification number (VIN), previous ownership records and the respective European certificate of compliance.”
“It is also advisable to use duly accredited professionals or entities, with the competence to carry out the technical verification of the vehicle and the validation of the documentation presented,” the GNR warns.
Furthermore, the GNR reinforces that “the acquisition of vehicles of illicit origin can lead to the immediate seizure of the asset and the involvement of the buyer in criminal proceedings, namely for the crime of reception, even in cases where they have acted in good faith.”
Buyer Beware!
