The North American market is the 2nd largest market in terms of guests and overnight stays in Portugal. Therefore, Turismo de Portugal welcomes the new air routes connecting to the USA, which include the connection between New York and Funchal, which begins on the 7th of June.
The route between Madeira and the USA will be undertaken by United Airlines and will fly three times a week. The Los Angeles-Lisbon route, which started on the 16th of May, and the Boston-Porto connection, which started on the 14th of May, are both operated by TAP. The New York-Faro route started operations last Saturday, with four weekly flights, is also operated by United Airlines.
The growth trend continues for the year 2025, with Portugal standing out as one of the destinations chosen for summer holidays and, for the next high season, the North American market already represents 30% of registered bookings.
According to Carlos Abade, President of Turismo de Portugal, “the United States market represents one of the strategic axes for the sustained growth of national tourism. With these new routes, all national airports are now connected to the USA, which reinforces the attractiveness of Portugal as a destination of choice for North American travellers and contributes to a better distribution of the tourist flow throughout the territory.”
