Madeira Airport Radar Process – Satisfactory

The Permanent Specialised Committee on Economy, Finance and Tourism met this afternoon with the Regional Secretary for Tourism and Culture, Eduardo Jesus, in order to clarify issues related to the “Financing of the conclusions of the Working Group for the study of Air Operation Problems in the  Madeira Archipelago”.

Eduardo Jesus, stressed that for several years the Government of the Region has drawn attention to the importance of the equipment in question, as a way of guaranteeing greater operability at Madeira Airport. In the opinion of the Regional Secretary, with the new equipment, it will be possible to collect more up-to-date, complete and reliable data than the information the IPMA currently has, and carry out more accurate wind measurements.

He then went on to express his satisfaction with NAV Portugal – Navegação Aérea de Portugal, which has already opened a public tender for the supply and installation of a system for detection and warning of turbulence and wind shear at Madeira Airport.

The sting in the tail, is that the installation of the new equipment will not happen before July 2023.
