Technical-Scientific Study of North Coast Weather Needed

The Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) deputy Ricardo Lume has presented a draft resolution to be discussed and voted on this week at the Plenary of the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, which advocates the undertaking of a technical-scientific study to identify the factors and situations that amplified the destructive force of the storm which battered the north of the island on the 24th and 25th of December.

Events to be Cancelled or Postponed Until After September

The President of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque has said that this year the Madeira Wine Rally may not go ahead.  At the moment, the governments goal is to have 70% of the population vaccinated by the end of the summer, which will allow certain events, such as the Flower Festival to go ahead in September.

Porto Santo Line Resumes Service on 1st of March

The PS - Madeira reiterated their concern that the Regional Government has postponed the Porto Santo Ferry Connection between Madeira and Porto Santo until the 1st of March.  According to PS deputy Miguel Brito, this is a situation that has made local populations unhappy, and affects local entrepreneurs who are suffering financially due to the pandemic situation. 

New Public Lighting 200,000 Euros Cheaper

The Funchal City Council (CMF) has released a statement to the effect that since 2016, the replacement and modernisation of the public lighting network of several streets, paths, alleys, and social districts managed by the Municipality, including Bairro do Hospital, Bairro da Quinta Josefina and Bairro da Nazaré, which has resulted in the replacement of more than a 1,000 lights with new LED lighting systems, has reduced the municipality's energy bill by €200,000.
