As a result of today's bad weather and storm damage affecting the parish of Machico, the President of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque has offered government aid to help with the cleanup operation.

As the bad weather continues and is set to get worse the Civil Protection Service (SRPC, IP-RAM) has issued a set of guidelines.

The Regional Government has passed a resolution regarding the restriction of movement. The resolution states that “as of 00:00 on the 5th of January 2021, while the state of emergency is in force or there are municipalities at high risk, travelling on public roads is prohibited in the Autonomous Region of Madeira between 11 pm and 5 am, with the following exceptions:”
