The Judiciary Police (PJ) carried out searches at Madeira’s regional health service, SESARAM, on Tuesday, the 20th of October, as part of an investigation involving the Non-Urgent Patient Transport Service and the Remuneration Unit.
The searches, which included the Human Resources Department, were confirmed to DIÁRIO by the PJ’s Regional Director. Information and documents were collected as part of an ongoing investigation, although the specific matters under scrutiny have not been disclosed.
Speaking that afternoon during the handover of 25 homes in Ribeiro Real, Câmara de Lobos, Miguel Albuquerque said the Regional Government was cooperating with investigators.
“We collaborate with the Judiciary Police and the Public Prosecutor’s Office,” the President of the Regional Government said, adding that the authorities were being given access to all requested information and material.
Albuquerque declined to provide further details, saying: “We have nothing to hide.” He said, confirming that the proceedings had taken place this morning.
In a statement, SESARAM confirmed that judicial and institutional authorities had carried out enquiries involving its Non-Urgent Patient Transport Service and Remuneration Unit.
The health service said its work was guided by the principles of transparency and legality and pledged full cooperation with the authorities, including providing any clarification required.
It also assured the public that all healthcare services continued to operate normally, with no disruption to patient care.
Chega-Madeira leader, Hugo Nunes, was the first to alert the population of the searches in a video he posted on social media.
No details have been released identifying the specific suspected offences or establishing individual responsibility.
